How the numbers are chosen

A number earns an episode when it is easy to overlook but difficult to escape: a measurement, ratio, voltage, spacing, or limit that has shaped machines, regulations, investments, or habits around it. A curious number alone is not enough. It needs a visible consequence, a causal path through the surrounding system, and records strong enough to test the claim.

When the evidence cannot support a clean claim, the claim is narrowed rather than disguised.
